Executive Director

Tara Muhlhauser

Tara Lea Muhlhauser is the Executive Director of CAWS North Dakota, beginning in April 2020. She is a Social Worker and Attorney and has worked in Human Services in North Dakota, Washington State, Oregon and Philadelphia over the past 39 years. She has worked in Executive and Judicial branches in state agencies and in Higher Education at the University of North Dakota as Faculty in Social Work, Assistant Dean of the UND Law School, and Director of the Children and Family Training Center. She is an Annie E. Casey Foundation Leadership Fellow since 2002. In addition, Ms. Muhlhauser was an Assistant Attorney General working with Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, ICWA, administrating VOCA funds, and implementation of the Victim/Witness Fair Treatment Standards, as well as the ND State Child Welfare Director. Over her career she has provided training across the country and written articles and curriculum materials.
