About

A Legal Line for North Dakota Victims (ALL ND Victims) will provide support and improve access to legal information for victims of crime in North Dakota. The Legal Line is not only a resource for victims but also for CAWS’ Member Programs. Free legal information and follow up to certain legal issues that do not require court representation will be offered. The Legal Line is designed to complement other legal services that are available in North Dakota.

FAQs

Rule 34 Advocates or other employees of CAWS’ Member Programs may call in regards to questions raised directly from Member Programs, employees of Member Programs, or victims of crime. Victim Witness Coordinators or State’s Attorneys may also call.

A few brief questions will be asked to determine legal needs and if the matter falls within the scope of the Legal Line. If it is determined to be a qualifying issue, an intake questionnaire will be conducted. This will help the Civil Legal Specialist assess what legal information, resources, or referrals are needed.

If it is determined that specific legal advice is needed, the Civil Legal Specialist will collect names and additional data for a conflict check and to review with the Legal Services Director. If no conflicts are present, either the Civil Legal Specialist or Legal Services Director will respond within four (4) business days.

General questions about many areas of law, including domestic violence, sexual assault, family law, and landlord/tenant issues, to name a few.
