Lifeways: A Journey Through Survival to Advocacy is a photo feature of eight Native Americans from nations throughout North and South Dakota. Their portraits depict the journey from victim to survivor, survivor to advocate.
For the viewer, Lifeways depicts the interconnectedness of all living things, one being to another and one generation to the next. We see that the hurt of one is the hurt of all, and the honor of one is the honor of all.
The journey of these survivors is one that works at rebuilding families and communities. The story begins with restoring the Sacred to all of their relationships; starting with the Self, then with their Family, the Community, their Nations and Humanity.
Lifeways is an exhibit sponsored by CAWS North Dakota and is available for display at organizations statewide.
